You know how I know that it’s spring? Oh, let me count the ways…
1) I have a very very nasty cold. The kind that makes you crabby and irritable and hungry. Oh so hungry. I get one every year, right about this time.
2) There are chicks in the shed. Laying pullet chicks, that is. 23 of them until tomorrow when Kimberly picks up her 3. I’m keeping 12 and another 8 are leaving when they’re big enough to join their new flocks without being bullied too badly. There are Speckled Sussex, Silver Leghorn, Black Star, Black Astralorp and Blue Andalusian. I love peepers.

this photo is from Feb. 2010, but this year's chicks are just as cute...
3. We’ve already been to our first wedding, in the West Texas Panhandle right on the New Mexico border. Mike’s sister Kris and her fiance Scott got married on his sister’s ranch. It was a delightful weekend in a part of the country that we’d never been to before. The laughter was contagious and led by the bride and groom.
4. I’m already behind in the garden and the first day of spring was less than a week ago. I really am starting my tomatoes and peppers this weekend, and if they don’t jump right out of the dirt I’m going to buy starts and not feel bad about it.
5. Everyone is shedding. The cats, the dogs, the horses. There’s hair everywhere.
6. It smells like spring and the daffodils by the garage are blooming.
Has spring found you yet?
